- Conserves Water: Retains moisture in the soil, potentially saving up to 50% on watering frequency for your plants.
- Suppresses Weeds: Restricts sunlight access to weed seeds, making germination less likely and weakening any weeds that do sprout for easier removal.
- Improves Soil Health: By reflecting sun to regulate temperature, preventing erosion and compaction, protecting microbial activity, enhancing aeration, water retention, and fertility, conserving nutrients, and building organic matter to enrich even challenging clay soils.
- Protects Plants: By preventing low-hanging fruits from touching hot soil, shielding them from rain and mud splatter, and reducing the incidence of common diseases like blossom end rot, blight, and leaf spot.
How do I use GardenStraw?
To start your gardening season, prep your soil by weeding and raking it smooth. Next, apply a 2-3 inch layer of GardenStraw, keeping it about an inch away from plant crowns and stems (for seeds, apply a very thin layer or wait until sprouting). Finish by watering thoroughly over the mulch to help it settle and stay in place.
Throughout the season, water as needed by checking soil moisture under the straw, and reapply mulch when the layer thins. At the end of the season, simply mix the decomposing straw into your soil or leave it for protection; no removal is necessary.
GardenStraw (3 cu ft): approx. 100 sq ft at a 2-3” layer of mulch GardenStraw Mini (0.5 cu ft): approx. 20 sq ft at a 2-3” layer of mulch.
